Dominican Republic Wyndham Resort Hit by Deadly Fire

A large fire broke out last night at the Viva Dominicus Beach by Wyndham resort in Bayahibe, Dominican Republic, causing a major emergency response. The blaze spread quickly through parts of the beachfront property, with officials saying wind conditions and palm-thatched roof structures contributed to the rapid spread of flames. Guests and staff members were evacuated from the resort as smoke and flames moved across the area. Authorities reported that a 46-year-old Italian touris died in the fire. Several other people required medical attention, including three individuals who were taken to medical facilities and others treated at the scene. Dramatic videos from the scene showed heavy smoke rising above the coastline as guests moved to safer areas away from the burning structures. Emergency crews worked to contain the blaze, and authorities said the cause of the fire remains under investigation. The nearby Viva Wyndham Dominicus Palace resort was reported to be unaffected by the fire and continued operating.
