Four Seasons Resort Nevis announces the appointment of Avi Phookan as the Resort’s new General Manager. With more than two decades of international hospitality experience, Phookan brings a dynamic leadership style, a deep passion for guest experience, and a strong focus on environmental and community stewardship to his new role in Nevis.
Phookan most recently served as General Manager of Four Seasons Resort Lanai in Hawaii, where he led the resort’s evolution in guest experience and spearheaded a number of impactful ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) initiatives, including earning the Maui Nui Marine Resource Council Gold Award for Reef Safe Landscaping and EarthCheck Certification .
“I’m incredibly honoured to join the team at Four Seasons Resort Nevis and to become part of such a storied destination in the Caribbean,” said Phookan. “Throughout my career, I’ve been fortunate to work across cultures and continents, and what I’ve learned is that authentic service, thoughtful leadership and a strong connection to the local environment are universal keys to success. I look forward to applying that philosophy in Nevis—honouring its heritage, supporting the community, and delivering unforgettable guest experiences that reflect both the spirit of the island and the excellence of Four Seasons.”
Prior to his time in Lanai, Phookan held progressive leadership roles across the globe in Dubai, Doha, New Orleans, Charleston and Belize, contributing to several high-profile pre-opening projects. He is also no stranger to the Caribbean region, having held positions at The Ritz-Carlton in Grand Cayman and the St. Kitts Marriott Beach Resort. He joined Four Seasons as Resort Manager in Lanai before being promoted to General Manager in 2023.
Born in Assam, India, Phookan discovered his passion for hospitality while traveling with his father, who worked in the tea industry. His exposure to diverse cultures at a young age inspired a career dedicated to travel, luxury, and people. A graduate of Institut Hôtelier César Ritz in Switzerland, he also holds a certification in Hotel Real Estate Investments and Asset Management from the Cornell University.
As General Manager, Phookan will oversee all aspects of the Resort’s operations, including guest services, accommodations, culinary programming, spa and wellness offerings, and sustainability efforts. His leadership will be instrumental in shaping the future of Four Seasons Resort Nevis as a beacon of luxury in the Caribbean... Read more here (paying members only) / Become member here
