Reaffirming its commitment to legendary service, Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group has been awarded Forbes Travel Guide’s highest honour—Five Stars—at two of its most recently opened hotels, Mandarin Oriental Palace, Luzern and Mandarin Oriental, Costa Navarino, which is also the only Five-Star property in the Peloponnese, Greece.

  • 14 Five-Star Spas – The most of any hospitality group of its size

  • Newest Five-Star recognitions for Mandarin Oriental, Costa Navarino and Mandarin Oriental Palace, Luzern

They are among 23 properties in The Group which were given the highest award, Forbes announced on 12th  February. The results have also confirmed Mandarin Oriental’s standing as the world’s most awarded hotel spa operator of its size, with 14 recognised with Five Stars. Forbes define Five-Star properties as those which ‘Deliver an outstanding experience and consistently offer a highly customised level of service’.

Laurent Kleitman, Group Chief Executive, commented: “We are delighted to receive this prestigious recognition from Forbes Travel Guide, celebrating a total of 23 Five-Star properties across the Group. This achievement reflects our dedication to redefining modern luxury, where legendary service, exceptional design and immersive cultural and wellness experiences create extraordinary stays for our guests.

With forthcoming openings in Downtown Dubai and Vienna, we look forward to providing guests with even more opportunities to discover what makes Mandarin Oriental truly exceptional.”

Today's Inspiration: In November 2021, Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group appointed Torsten van Dullemen as General Manager of Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London and Area Vice President, Operations overseeing Mandarin Oriental, Mayfair and the forthcoming Mandarin Oriental Bankside, London. This role was enhanced further, in April 2022, when he was appointed Group Director of Sustainability, taking on the responsibility for Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group’s sustainability efforts.

Mr Van Dullemen was previously General Manager of Mandarin Oriental, Washington D.C. and Area Vice President, Operations for the Group’s Northeast US operations. He also held senior Mandarin Oriental positions in Hong Kong, Manila, Chiang Mai and Bangkok as well as with The Oberoi Hotels and Resorts in India.

A well-established hotelier, Van Dullemen is no stranger to London, having begun his career at the property first as a Management Trainee and later as Food & Beverage Manager when previously the Hyde Park Hotel. He also rejoined as Hotel Manager from 2004-2007 after the property was rebranded Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London.

“I am delighted to return to our iconic London property in this prestigious position. I look forward to working with the entire team on further elevating the bespoke service and innovative experiences for which our brand is renowned” Van Dullemen said back in 2021. On his position as Group Director of Sustainability, he said “As a passionate advocate of sustainability, my role is to ensure that it remains an integral part of everything we do”.

A Dutch national and fluent in Dutch, English, German, French and Italian, Van Dullemen is a graduate of hotel school, The Hague Institute for Hotel Management, and Cornell University, a member of MENSA International and a fan of photography, ultramarathon running, competitive swimming and literature.

In continental Europe, Mandarin Oriental Palace, Luzern, Mandarin Oriental, Milan and Mandarin Oriental, Bodrum were distinguished as the only Five-Star hotels in their respective cities. Meanwhile, in the Middle East, Mandarin Oriental, Doha, achieved Five-Star ratings in both the hotel and spa categories.

In Asia Pacific, Mandarin Oriental Wangfujing, Beijing, has once again achieved the prestigious Five-Star rating for both its hotel and spa, marking six consecutive years of excellence since its opening. It remains the only property in Beijing to receive this distinction in both categories. The Landmark Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong, reaffirmed its top hotel and spa rating, an honour it has earned annually since 2010—an accolade also bestowed on the iconic Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong.
