The refurbishment of the resort is designed to enhance profitability and asset value while elevating the guest experience through upgraded facilities and operational improvements. In recent years, the Company, together with its partners and co-investors, has invested €1 billion in the repositioning of 90 strategically important hotels.

Meliá Hotels International has invested €50 million in the repositioning of Paradisus Cancún, a project that forms part of its global strategy to enhance and actively manage its hotel assets. Through this transformation, the Company aims to strengthen the competitive positioning of one of its flagship resorts in Mexico, increase profitability, and unlock greater long-term strategic value.

The project reflects Meliá’s disciplined capital allocation approach and its focus on selectively investing in strategic assets with strong potential for value enhancement. The renovation enables the Company to further elevate Paradisus Cancún in line with Meliá’s distinctive premium and luxury hospitality proposition, maximizing the performance and value of the asset over time.

“At Meliá, we believe in the potential of our assets and in our ability to generate sustainable, long-term growth through strategic investment. The €50 million investment in Paradisus Cancún will allow us to further enhance the guest experience, strengthen the resort’s profitability and long-term value, and continue contributing to the development of Quintana Roo by supporting employment and economic activity within the local community. It is a clear example of our commitment to investing in the hotels where we can create the greatest value, both for our business and for the destinations in which we operate,” said Gabriel Escarrer, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Meliá Hotels International.

Active Asset Management Driving Growth and Profitability

The investment in Paradisus Cancún is part of a broader repositioning strategy that Meliá is implementing alongside hotel owners and co-investment partners. In recent years, the Company has transformed more than 90 hotels, channeling close to €1 billion into upgrading and enhancing their value.

Notable examples include Villa Le Blanc Gran Meliá in Menorca, Paradisus resorts in the Canary Islands, and ZEL Mallorca, which multiplied its revenue fivefold during its first season following repositioning. These success stories highlight the strong potential of Meliá’s asset enhancement strategy to drive hotel performance and profitability. Across all projects, the objective remains the same: to elevate quality standards and the guest experience in ways that translate into sustained financial results and greater long-term returns.

Supporting the Economic and Sustainable Development of the Destination

The renovation also aims to deepen the resort’s contribution to the development of Quintana Roo and its economy through stronger partnerships with local suppliers, professional development opportunities for employees, the creation of more than 650 indirect jobs, and experiences that connect guests with the region’s culture, natural heritage, and traditions. As

Escarrer noted during the inauguration: “With this investment, we are building on the remarkable legacy my father established when he opened this hotel in 1986. His first venture into the Mexican Caribbean reflected a vision of growth that went hand in hand with social development and the preservation of the region’s exceptional natural environment, a commitment we continue to uphold today.”

On the environmental front, the resort’s sea turtle conservation programme has protected more than 175,000 eggs over the past three years, while engaging both guests and employees in awareness and education initiatives. These efforts are complemented by energy and water efficiency measures, as well as comprehensive waste recycling programmes. This commitment has been recognised through the 2026 Ecostars Bronze certification and the Socially Responsible Company distinction.... Continue reading (Members Only) - Unlock Advantages with a LHN Membership - Read more here

Paradisus Cancun Unveils a New Vision of Destination-Inspired Wellness in the Mexican Caribbean

The highly anticipated grand opening celebration invited guests on an immersive wellness journey to discover the experiences, people, culture, and moments that define the resort today

Following its reopening in April 2026 after an extensive transformation, Paradisus Cancun, the iconic luxury resort from Meliá Hotels International, is ushering in a new era of all-inclusive in the Mexican Caribbean with a dynamic offering that places wellbeing at the center of the guest experience and reimagines the traditional all-inclusive experience through a destination-inspired lens. To celebrate this new era and showcase a new expression of Caribbean luxury, the resort invited guests on an immersive journey to discover wellness not as a single moment or treatment, but as a series of meaningful experiences that unfold throughout their stay, blending movement, beauty, mindfulness, gastronomy, nature, and authentic cultural connection.

Honoring the legacy that made it an icon in the region, Paradisus Cancun offers guests a more sophisticated and sensorial approach to all-inclusive luxury, brought to life through elevated design, transformative wellness, exceptional gastronomy, and immersive destination experiences. Guests can begin the morning with yoga, breathwork, or a Mayan cleansing ritual; move through the day with high-energy fitness and aquatic experiences; explore innovative recovery and skincare concepts; and connect with Mexican culture through artisan workshops, local gastronomy, and live cultural storytelling.

Wellness Designed by Destination

At Paradisus Cancun, wellness extends beyond how guests move, restore, and recharge to foster a deeper connection with the destination itself. Through the brand’s Destination Inclusive® program, guests are invited to discover the richness of Mexican and Mayan heritage through ancestral rituals, artisan craft, local gastronomy, and live cultural storytelling.

“The unveiling of Paradisus Cancun’s new wellness offering marks an exciting new chapter for the resort as we reimagine what all-inclusive luxury can mean for today’s traveler,” said Alberto Lalinde, Vice President of Operations America, Meliá Hotels International. “By bringing together innovative wellness experiences, movement, recovery, mindful rituals, and the richness of Mexican culture, we are creating a true wellness playground where guests can connect with themselves, with each other, and with the destination. We are thrilled to welcome guests from around the world to discover this new expression of Paradisus Cancun and experience wellness in a way that feels personal, engaging, and deeply connected to the spirit of the destination.”

The resort’s new vision came to life during its grand opening celebration on October 18th, where attendees experienced Paradisus Cancun’s destination-inspired approach to wellness firsthand. The festivities began with a ceremonial welcome inspired by Mayan culture, weaving together storytelling, live performances, and mindful breathing to introduce guests to the resort’s philosophy of wellbeing and connection. Attendees then explored a curated selection of rooms and suites brought to life through immersive storytelling, styling, lighting, and experiential moments, each designed to showcase the different ways guests can experience the resort’s new approach to all-inclusive luxury.

The celebration continued with immersive wellness programming, including Red Light Yoga, Disco Spinning, and Moonlight Sound Healing, an evening experience combining singing bowls, mindful breathing, and restorative sound beneath the glow of the moon. The grand opening culminated with an official ceremony celebrating Paradisus Cancun’s transformation and its connection to the destination. The evening concluded with a spectacular fireworks and synchronized drone show illuminating the night sky and delivering a fitting final message, “The Icon Is Back”, marking the return of an iconic landmark in Cancun reimagined for a new era.
