The Langham, Custom House, Bangkok is now accepting bookings for stays from 20 December. Set along the Chao Phraya River in the Thai capital’s Bang Rak District, the highly anticipated hotel centers on the city’s storied Custom House building, which is undergoing meticulous restoration. Established in 1888 under King Rama V, the landmark was once regarded as the country’s gateway to the world.

The 75-key property will be managed by Langham Hospitality Group and has been conceived as a tranquil urban retreat, balancing understated luxury with a deep connection to its riverside setting and historic surroundings.

That sense of connection carries through to its 60 guestrooms and 15 suites, which will be housed in a contemporary building adjacent to Custom House. Rather than recreating the complex as it was, the approach pays homage to the site’s enduring legacy while giving it renewed purpose for the future. Designed by renowned Thai architect Smith Obayawat, Founder and Principal of OBA, the curvilinear structure reflects the movement of the river and serves as a respectful counterpart to the heritage icon beside it – Custom House as “the grandfather” and the new addition as “the grandson.”

Inside, residential elegance, thoughtful details, and modern comfort come together in a design that links past with present. Overlooking peaceful courtyards, the Bangkok skyline, or the river gliding alongside the hotel’s grand façade, the accommodations draw on natural textures, soft lighting, and subtle Siamese influences to create a warm and quietly refined atmosphere.

Sculptural bathtubs enshrined in brushed metal draw inspiration from precious materials and symbols of prestige, including coinage and gilded finishes, evoking the elegance and prosperity associated with the reign of King Rama V. This narrative continues through geometric etching that references the rhombus mosaic patterns found across Thai temples, traditional architecture, and sculpture, and through bespoke decorative lighting that subtly reinterprets royal emblems and ceremonial weaponry.

These references are further developed in the suites to convey the heightened grandeur associated with Thai nobility. Together, they create a sophisticated dialogue between heritage and contemporary craftsmanship, balanced by The Langham’s signature palette and modern amenities.

The new addition will also house a Chuan Spa and a state-of-the-art fitness center featuring Technogym’s luxury Sandstone collection – the first installation of its kind in Asia.

At the heart of the property, the restored Custom House and adjoining heritage structures have been designated as public spaces. The revived buildings will function as vibrant gathering places for guests and visitors, anchored by a collection of dining, drinking, and lifestyle destinations to be revealed in due course.

“For generations, Custom House served as Thailand’s gateway to the world, and we are proud to see it preparing to welcome the world again as part of The Langham, Custom House, Bangkok,” Langham Hospitality Group CEO Bob van den Oord said. “The hotel’s guestrooms and suites, together with its world-class amenities, will offer an intimate and highly considered expression of luxury that reflects both the character of its remarkable site and The Langham’s distinctive approach to hospitality.”

The hotel will also offer convenient access to many of Bangkok’s leading attractions, from the cultural hub Asiatique The Riverfront and the expansive ICONSIAM shopping mall to the city’s famed Chinatown district and the galleries, cafés, and creative spaces of Charoen Krung. Guests can additionally enjoy bespoke transport experiences, including private river journeys and chauffeured Bentley transfers, extending the property’s blend of heritage, culture, and elevated luxury.
