Projects scheduled to start construction within the next 12 months total 398 projects and 72,213 rooms at Q2, up 5 percent by projects year-over-year. Hotel construction projects currently in the early planning stage stand at a record high of 1,119 projects and 181,397 rooms at Q2, up 26 percent by projects and 25 percent by rooms year-over-year, accounting for 45 percent of the total pipeline.
Most chain scales are hitting record highs across the board. Luxury reaches 432 projects and 79,928 rooms, up 22 percent by projects and 18 percent by rooms year-over-year, while the upper upscale chain scale reaches 435 projects and 91,231 rooms, up 14 percent by projects and 11 percent by rooms year-over-year. Upscale hotel projects stand at 658 projects and 121,365 rooms, up 22 percent by projects and 15 percent by rooms year-over-year.
