Four Seasons Resort Langkawi announces the appointment of Tobias Emmer as General Manager. A seasoned hotelier with over two decades of global experience, Tobias steps into his new role with a clear intention: to preserve the lush oceanfront retreat as a place where guests can experience Malaysia at its most authentic, while gently guiding it into the future.

Carving a successful path through acclaimed hotels in Munich, London, and Shanghai, followed by Four Seasons properties in the Maldives, Thailand, and Singapore, Tobias combines operational rigour with a passion for crafting stays that feel personal, effortless, and unique to the destination. Since joining Four Seasons Resort Langkawi as Resort Manager in 2024, he has placed renewed emphasis on connecting guest experiences with the local landscape.

“Langkawi is one of the most extraordinary settings in the region, and our role is to let guests feel that – through the rainforests, the coastline, the geology, and the culture all around us,” says Tobias. Among the resort’s upcoming highlights are a Malaysian-inspired festive season, shaped by local crafts, flavours, and traditions, and the launch of five newly renovated beach villas designed to immerse guests in their remarkable surroundings.

Growing up in Germany, Tobias inherited the hotel gene from his uncle, a lifelong hotelier. As a teenager, he apprenticed at a renowned hotel in Munich before earning a bachelor’s degree in tourism and spending several years in London with the same hospitality group.

A luxury hotel pre-opening brought Tobias to Shanghai in 2012, followed by a move to Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Kuda Huraa, where his talent and dedication fueled a rapid rise. As Resort Manager at Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle, he learned to uphold world-class standards in a remote location, while two years as Hotel Manager in Singapore sharpened his operational discipline and collaborative skills.

Moving to Langkawi brought Tobias back to island life with a deeper perspective on success.

“Through my time with Four Seasons, I’ve realized that excellence goes beyond good service. It’s about crafting moments of discovery, connection, and presence that allow guests to experience a destination more fully,” he shares. “How can we preserve the authentic spirit of a place while elevating comfort, luxury, and access? That’s where the magic lies.”

Eleanor Roosevelt once observed that true hospitality is giving the best of yourself to your guests – a principle Tobias asks of himself and encourages in his team. A natural listener and committed mentor, he gives his people room to grow and to bring their own character to the way they look after guests.

Tobias looks forward to leading a new chapter for Four Seasons Resort Langkawi, where Malaysian-inspired design, storied dining, thrilling adventures, and elemental wellness come together in the lush setting of Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark.

“Every detail at our resort reflects the distinctive beauty of Langkawi. What I love most is the mile-long beach and all the different ways guests can experience the Andaman Sea from our shoreline,” he says. “Together with our incredible team, I’m excited to continue curating moments that connect our guests with nature, with island culture, and with one another.”
