Hilton Expands Asia Pacific Luxury Footprint with Six Strategic General Manager Appointments
Hilton has moved decisively to reinforce its leadership bench across Asia Pacific, announcing a coordinated wave of General Manager appointments that span Japan, Thailand, and China. The appointments—covering five distinct brands and six properties—signal the company’s intent to scale its luxury and lifestyle portfolio aggressively across the region, with a particular focus on first-in-market debuts and flagship openings in key gateway cities.
The appointments, announced in mid-October 2026, come as Hilton pursues an ambitious expansion strategy across Asia Pacific. The company plans to grow its portfolio of over 160 trading luxury and lifestyle properties by 50 percent to more than 250 in the coming years. The leadership moves reflect a deliberate strategy of pairing seasoned Hilton veterans—several with deep regional expertise—with properties that carry significant brand and market significance. Japan: A Trio of Luxury Openings
Hilton’s most concentrated leadership investment comes in Japan, where three new luxury properties are preparing to open their doors. The appointments underscore Japan’s importance as a growth market and Hilton’s ambition to establish its top-tier brands in one of the world’s most competitive luxury hospitality landscapes.
Mark Foxwell has been appointed General Manager of Waldorf Astoria Tokyo Nihonbashi, a property scheduled to open in autumn 2027. Foxwell brings over three decades of experience across Asia Pacific’s leading luxury hotels, having held senior leadership roles at Hyatt Regency Osaka and Park Hyatt Tokyo earlier in his career. His return to Japan is deliberate: Hilton Japan, Korea & Micronesia Area President Joseph Khairallah noted that “having a leader who deeply understands both the market characteristics and the brand spirit was essential” for the Tokyo debut. Foxwell’s career has spanned Japan, Greater China, Southeast Asia, Australia, and the United States, with significant involvement in hotel openings and regional initiatives from Hyatt’s corporate office in Japan. Foxwell was explicit about the significance of the role: “I am deeply honored to be appointed General Manager of Waldorf Astoria Tokyo Nihonbashi at such a pivotal moment in the brand’s growth. Japan is a market I have come to understand deeply and hold in great respect.” The hotel will occupy floors 39 through 47 of the Tokyo Midtown Nihonbashi Tower, bringing Waldorf Astoria’s signature blend of timeless elegance and heartfelt service to one of Tokyo’s most historic districts. At Waldorf Astoria Osaka, Fabien Gastinel has taken the helm as the property continues to establish itself following its opening. Gastinel brings more than two decades of luxury hospitality experience across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and Africa, with a career spanning Waldorf Astoria Beijing and Cairo, The Ritz-Carlton Singapore, and Armani Hotel Dubai. He most recently served as General Manager of Waldorf Astoria Chengdu, where under his leadership the hotel achieved record performance and its signature restaurant earned recognition in the 2026 MICHELIN Guide.
Gastinel’s appointment comes as Waldorf Astoria Osaka celebrates its first Michelin Key recognition in the 2026 selection. “What matters most to me is human connection,” Gastinel said of his appointment. “By deepening trust with our guests, our passionate team members, and the local community, I look forward to leading this hotel—which has already earned high praise shortly after opening—to even greater heights in vibrant Osaka.” Continue reading (Members Only) - Unlock Advantages with a LHN Membership - Read more here
The third Japanese appointment brings Markus Kosch to Conrad Nagoya, the brand’s first property in the city. Kosch spoke passionately about the significance of Nagoya as a destination: “Nagoya, positioned at the center of Japan, is a city with a proud history dating back to the 1600s. It was here that the foundations of Japan as a nation were laid. We aim to bring new value and pride to Nagoya and the region, adding the heartbeat of Conrad Nagoya to this city that captivates the world with its spirit of craftsmanship.” The 170-room hotel will open within The Landmark Nagoya Sakae development, drawing inspiration from Aichi Prefecture’s artistic heritage. Ou brings more than a decade of Hilton experience, having joined the company in 2014 and taken his first General Manager role at Hilton Da Nang in 2021. He subsequently led the pre-opening of La Festa Phu Quoc, Curio Collection by Hilton—establishing the first Curio Collection property in Vietnam.
Ou’s appointment reflects Hilton’s strategy of developing internal talent and deploying proven leaders to drive first-in-market brand debuts.
